How about Ripples on your next quilt?

'Ripples' digital quilt pattern designed by Christy Dillon

Sometimes a quilt doesn't need fancy quilting.  This is one of my own small quilts made from the scraps of my Nearly Insane quilt.  The pieces are really tiny, postage stamp size, and there are lots of seams, so any quilt pattern had to fight against that.  On this occasion I chose a very simple Ripple pattern.  This may be something that could be done quite easily on a domestic machine, but the joy of a computerised quilting system is that the ripples remain even and if desired, can be stretched and squeezed to any size.  A great pattern for a modern quilt.

Following on from my last post, featuring Meg's Kaffe quilt with the 'Cosmos' digital longarm quilting pattern, here is is again with a completely different look.  When I saw the snail's in Marja's quilt, I immediately thought of their concentric shells and this pattern seemed to fit the bill.

Sometimes there is a perfect combination of quilt top and quilting pattern and I think we hit the jackpot with this one.  This is Meg's gorgeous Shimmering Triangles quilt, made in the 'glorious colour' of Kaffe Fassett fabrics.  I store the quilts waiting for pick-up in my spare room and I will admit  opening the door several times just for a glimpse of this quilt.

I knew as soon as the longarm quilting machine started stitching that is was going to be a perfect partner.  The digital quilting spiral pattern is called 'Cosmos' designed by Keryn Emmerson and is a great modern finish to a quilt

Also, I will admit that this Shimmering Triangles pattern is on my quilt bucket list and a great way to tackle your stash.

I have had the pleasure of custom quilting this fun quilt for Holly in the last few months.  The quilt design is 'Tropical Noel' by Mckenna Ryan and this quilt features dolphins, turtles, seahorses, an octopus and a host of other exotic underwater fish swimming amongst coral. Holly has appliqued all the sea creatures by hand and my job was to custom quilt it, so that all her hard work looked its best.

I think the original design, the octopus has a santa hat on and the dolphin is diving through a Christmas wreath, but with all the different sections, it was a fun custom quilt to do.

Scrappy Cotton Reel quilt by Jenny, longarm quilting by Fabadashery

Photo: Jenny Smith
Jenny has sent me this lovely photograph of the quilt which I had the pleasure of longarm quilting for her recently.  One of the reasons I enjoy longarm quilting for my customers is to help them get a finished quilt, so a photo like this in my inbox brings joy to my heart!
'Silver' digital pantograph, designed by Patricia Ritter

I think she mentioned that it was a Moda Cake Mix pattern and so it is probably made out of a pre-cut.  I really loved the green border on this quilt.  For the quilting, Jenny chose one of the digital patterns from my extensive pattern library called 'Silver' designed by Patricia Ritter.

Sheila's Hierloom Sampler Quilt - custom quilting by Frances Meredith at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Sheila's Hierloom Sampler Quilt
Sheila's Hierloom Sampler Quilt

Do you have a special quilt in your cupboard which you made many moons ago, but never quite had the time or confidence to finish and quilt.  Sheila hand stitched this sampler quilt a long time ago (1980's?) for a family member, but at the start of 2020 it was still waiting to be finished.  Sheila decided that it might be something I could do.  I was pleased to help and in this particular quilt used a combination of hand, custom quilting and computerised quilting.  Sheila had already designed the heart wreath for the alternating blocks and I was able to reproduce this as a digital pattern in my HQ Prostitcher Software, as a whole, half and quarter block.

For the remaining quilt I stitched in the ditch, added some freehand stipple to the backgrounds of the different sampler blocks and freehand feathers for the applique border.

Mary has made this quilt for a friend using a Missouri Star pattern called 'Around the Star'.  It is made from a 10" square Layer Cake, which ended up about 80" square.  I will admit that I would not attempt to quilt a quilt this size under a domestic machine, but the longarm quilting machine makes light work of it - like magic!

Another bit of 'magic' I used on this quilt was the pattern, 'Popcorn' designed by Willow Leaf Studio.  This digital pattern seems to work on a wide range of quilts.  If in doubt - use 'Popcorn'.

Here is another custom quilt which I have finished in the past few months - a Pickle Dish quilt made by Ainslie. Ainslie wanted a modern finish to this small quilt, so we went with custom quilting and to make for a quick finish, she also opted for my binding service.

As I enjoy piecing myself, when I am asked to custom finish a quilt, I am always keen to make the piecing look sharp and the best way to to this is to stitch in the ditch.  I would recommend this to anyone quilting their own quilts too.  It is hard work, but you know exactly where to stitch, so not too many decisions!  On this quilt I also did a lot of matchstick quilting as a filler.  You can see more of the detail of the quilting on the back!

Blue Cat Quilt made by Clementina, custom quilted by Frances Meredith

Blue Cat Quilt made by Clementina, custom quilted by Frances Meredith

Clementina has come up with a truly original design for her blue cat wall-hanging.  She has combined some hand-pieced fussy-cut English paper piecing with a simple outline of a cat.  As a longarm quilter my job was to custom quilt it, so that it was converted from a pieced top to a quilted wall-hanging.  Sometimes that simply involves outlining the painstaking work which my customer has put so much time into, to make their vision shine.

Celtic Solstice 2016 Mystery Quilt , made by Catherine, custom quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Celtic Solstice Mystery Quilt , made by Catherine,
custom quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting
The lockdown period allowed me to work my way through a list of custom quilting for my customers, including this Celtic Solstice quilt made by Catherine.  The Celtic Solstice quilt was a Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt in 2016 and on this occasion Catherine doubled the size of the pieces to make a wall-hanging sized quilt.  As usual the internet doesn't give a true representation of the size, but it was 46" x 46".

Lockdown 2020 Beach Hut / Houses Quilt made by Penny

Lockdown 2020 Beach Huts Quilt made by Penny

I don't know how the trend started, but I know a lot of quilters have been making 'House Quilts' over the 2020 lockdown period.  Penny has made this lovely colourful interpretation, but these are beach huts.  Penny has made excellent use of her novelty fabrics in this extravaganza.
Carrying on the beach theme, I found this seaside related digital quilting pattern with starfish and shells, designed by Christy Dillon of My Creative Stitches.  This was the first time I have had the opportunity to stitch it out and on this occasion, it was the perfect choice.

Indigo Spin Quilt with traditional Baptist Fan quilting pattern, made by Pat and quilted by Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Indigo Spin Quilt with traditional Baptist Fan quilting pattern,
made by Pat and quilted by Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Pat wanted to challenge herself for this quilt by testing her curved seam skills - she did a great job.   The pattern is called 'Indigo Spin' by Fons and Porter and can be made using 10" or Layer Cakes.  Pat used a indigo blue layer cake and white fabric for this striking combination.

Pat chose a traditional Baptist Fan digital quilting pattern for the quilt - you can really see the pattern on the white backing.

Half Square Triangle Quilt in French General Fabrics, made by Mercedes, quilted by Frances Meredith at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Half Square Triangle Quilt in French General Fabrics,
made by Mercedes

The more quilts that I quilt here at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting, the more I realise how I am drawn to the quilts which have softer colours, like this lovely half square triangle quilt made by Mercedes.  A combination of a wide range of French General fabrics and a soft, solid grey has made a wonderful quilt which would be suitable for both men and women and would fit into any home.

I like to spend time adding photos to my website, so that my customers can see what digital quilting patterns I have and how they look on an actual quilt.  Sherry took the time to view my Pinterest page before she dropped off her quilt and had spotted this Robot pattern called 'Boltz'.  I think this pattern is really fun, but besides a few charity Linus Quilts, I haven't had many opportunities to stitch it out.

Here is the pattern stitched out on her Half Square Triangle quilt. Sherry managed to squeeze in loads of novelty fabrics and the Robots were just another fun element. We used a bright yellow Glide thread called Split Pea.  A great way to see the digital quilting pattern on a  quilt is to use a plain  fabric for the backing, so that, in this case, you would have a whole cloth quilt featuring Robots!
If you have theme, or idea for a quilt pattern, please ask me.  I have a selection of novelty patterns which have not reached my website yet and beyond that there are thousands of patterns available on the internet.

Another large quilt which has been made during lockdown.  This Interwoven Stars quilt, made by Hilary, is 92" x 105" and ready with its binding  to be put on the bed.  There are just three solid fabrics used in this quilt and it made a great canvas for a bold quilt pattern.

I will admit that I do love a pink, green, cream colour combination, however, if you pop over to a previous Fabadashery post from this time last year, you will see that Sian did the same quilt in a completely different colour way.  Sian and Hilary are a mother and daughter team who provide quilting classes in the South Wales area.

Wendy's Rose themed quilt
Wendy's Rose themed quilt
One thing I have been admiring during my lockdown walks are the lovely roses which we are enjoying in our gardens this year.  When Wendy sent through her lovely quilt made from a pre-cut, there were roses all over it, so choosing this new Rose Garden pattern was a natural choice.
