Day 6 Twelve days of Christmas - Kath's Birds and Flowers Quilt

Kath's Birds and Flowers Quilt
Welcome to Day 6 of the Fabadashery Longarm Quilting Twelve Days of Christmas.  Today I am sharing Kath's Birds and Flowers Quilt, which i think was a pattern in Today's Quilter Magazine.  I have longarm quilted one of these before and can see why it is popular, as it is a good little scrap buster.  Kath had found some tropical fabric for the backing and binding and wanted the quilt to have a tropical / jungle feel.  We had a hunt around and found 'Banana Leaves' designed by Patricia Ritter of Urban Elementz.

Day 5 Twelve Days of Christmas - Verna's Eight-Pointed Star Quilt

Verna's Eight-Pointed Star Quilt
Verna's Eight-Pointed Star Quilt
Welcome to Day 5 of the Fabadashery Longarm Quilting Twelve Days of Christmas. Today I am featuring Verna's Eight-Pointed Star quilt.  Verna chose just red, white and blue for this striking quilt and it's simplicity required a quiet pattern.  On this occasion, I suggested 'Bird's Eye View' designed by Barbara Becker.  Why does this work?  It works because all the lines a soft, flowing lines and the spaces between are quite evenly spaced.  I think this has been one of my most popular patterns this year.  To add some extra interest, we used a variegated red, white and blue thread and you can just see the white popping up on the navy fabric.

Welcome to Day 4 of the Fabadashery Longarm Quilting Twelve Days of Christmas.  Today I am featuring Viv's Seaside Quilt, made for her friends living by the sea.  She chose fabrics from the 'Harbourside' Lewis and Irene fabric collection, which includes lobsters, fishermen and boats.  To keep with the nautical feel, I fished out a cute seaside pattern, 'Anchors Aweigh' designed by Patricia Ritter, featuring swirls and anchors.  A great finishing touch.

Welcome to Day 3 of the Fabadashery Longarm Quilting Twelve Days of Christmas. Today I am sharing Shelley's quilt.  Throughout 2022, this quilt design, 'Glitter Ball' designed by the Crafty Nomad, has been popping up at quilt shows, which was offered as a Block of the Month earlier in the year.  I know Shelley used it as a skill builder learning how to do circles and curves in her quilts and brought me this fabulous version for longarm quilting.  It is a striking design and it deserved a striking quilt pattern.  'Modern Curves' designed by Anita Shackleford does the trick.

Day 1 Twelve days of Christmas - Di Kaffe Fassett, Sunflower Love Quilt

Di's Kaffe Fassett Jewel Frames Quilt
Welcome to Day 1 of the Fabadashery Twelve days of Christmas.  This is one (of many!) Kaffe Fassett quilts which Di made this year, based on his Jewel Frame quilts.  As I write this, the weather is miserable and wet, it is hard to believe that the summer of 2022 was scorchingly hot.  I was in France for some of the hot weather and wherever we travelled there were sunflowers being grown for their seeds.  We saw MILLIONS of sunflowers.  The focus of any Kaffe Fassett quilt are the bright fabrics and patterns, which usually means you can quilt it any number of ways.  On this occasion, Di chose 'Sunflower Love' a pattern by Susan Punch Manry.  It is quite a bold and busy pattern, but perfect for this hot pink, orange and yellow quilt.

Chilhowie Mystery Quilt, Week 2
Chilhowie Mystery Quilt, Week 2
Several of my customers take part in Bonnie Hunter's annual Mystery Quilt.  I am no stranger to them myself and have decided to take part this year.  As you will see my colour scheme is slightly different to Bonnies, choosing red, white and two tones of blue.  We have had two clues so far, so not too late to join in. You can find all the details at Quiltville's Quips & Snips!!: Chilhowie Mystery!

Sue's Football Quilt - the Final Score

Sue's Batik Football Quilt
Sue's Batik Football Quilt
Once you start a trend making quilts for your grandchildren, then they will ALL need one. Some are easier than others to devise a quilt for, but sometimes it can be the quilting pattern which can personalise the project.  Sue made this quilt for her granddaughter using batik fabrics.  This sort of quilt can take almost any digital quilting design, as the fabrics are quite busy and blend nicely. A quick flick through my Novelty catalogue and we found the ideal digital pattern - footballs.

This quilt was made by Linda for her son, who is a big Football World Cup fan.  She fussy cut some England Team fabric bought at Doughty's and used her Accuquilt cutter to make us the stars.

Claudine's Red, White and Blue Hourglass Quilt (Football Mania!)

Claudine's Red, White and Blue Hourglass Quilt

The 2022 World Cup is currently in full swing, so I am going with the flow to show you some football inspired quilts, which some of my longarm quilting customers have made.  Firstly, here is a red, white and blue Hourglass Quilt, made by Claudine for her football mad son.  Can you work out his favourite team?

Claudine's Red, White and Blue Hourglass Quilt

Claudine was very clever to combine her love of American reproduction fabrics with rogue fabric scraps from her son's Liverpool Football Club duvet! (you may need to zoom in ...) I helped to finish it off with this digital longarm pattern called Cosmos.

I always enjoy doing quilts which have been made using a fabric with a different texture - they seem to bring out the quilting pattern to its best.  This shows Olwen's Rainbow quilt which is made from an Indian cotton.  With the Hobbs Polydown wadding, the Bubbles quilting pattern shows up beautifully.

I recently had the pleasure of quilting Alyson's 'Coming Home' quilt, a pattern designed by Sarah Fielke.  I think this was a lockdown project and since I quilted it, it has been on display at Leominster Quilters Exhibition.

It is always a pleasure to work on Alyson's quilts as she has a wonderful skill with the use of colour.  On this particular quilt, we used a very soft grey, Flint a Fil-Tec Glide Thread, using this 'Ginger Stars' pattern which reflects the flowers in the design.

Often a simply pieced quilt is the perfect opportunity to showcase a quilting pattern. In this case, it was a pattern called 'Rhododendron' design by Hermione Agee, a big, flowery pattern which gives a lovely allover texture.

Just a reminder that there will be a display of some of my quilts at the Malvern Autumn Quilt Festival, next week from Friday 21st October 2022, with Grosvenor Shows.  This is the last opportunity for you to see them display together.  I hope to be there on Friday and Sunday, so do stop and say hello.
