Quilting Thread

Glide Thread
I just want to reassure my longarm quilting customers that I have plenty of supplies and that I have just received a new delivery of thread to replenish my stocks from Pinhole Quilting.  The wide range of beautiful colours available are not always the ones which are in demand - hence my colour selection - Light Grey, Mocha (I get through a lot of this!), Cleopatra, Yellow Whisper, Khaki, Slate (I get through a lot of this too ..) and finally Baby Blue.  As many of you know, the full choice I have is much larger!
Pinhole Quilting have the full range of Glide Threads in the UK and their delivery is fast!

Before Christmas I was busy quilting customer quilts and at one time I had five quilts which were made from Kaffe Fassett fabrics.  We find them irresistible! This particular one was made by Jennie - I love her use of the border fabric.

With regard to quilting, I often take the view with quilts made out of these fabrics that 'anything goes'.  The reason we have made the quilt is because we love the fabrics and any quilting is going to take second place.  On this occasion we chose an elegant pattern called 'Allouette'. Don't forget - the beautiful quilt pattern will show up on the back!

Margie's colourful quilt, featuring Amusement and Celery green Glide thread

Margie's colourful quilt

Happy St Patrick's Day!
Today I am sharing Margie's lovely bright modern quilt.  Margie sends her quilts to me, I get back in touch with ideas, I quilt it and I send it back to her.  It works!
I tried to find an appropriate green quilt to share today, but instead I am showcasing Glide Celery green thread.  When you have many colours in a quilt like Margie's it is hard to choose which is best colour thread.  In these situations, I usually reach for green thread as it seems to have magical qualities, which blend in with many shades.

This is the back of the quilt, showing a fun quilting pattern called 'Amusement', stitched out in Glide Celery thread.  The green is quite pale which shows on the white backing fabric enough to make it interesting.

Fancy Forest Quilt made by Denise, quilted by Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

'Fancy Forest' quilt made by Denise
Denise is awaiting a new member to the family and has made this 'Fancy Forest' quilt, designed by Elizabeth Hartman.  I have always seen these quilts made in modern solids, but Denise raided her stash and has made it out of fabric she had. Whether it is a baby boy or a baby girl, I think this quilt will suit either.

To finish it off, Denise chose to send her love with hearts, Ginger Hearts on this occasion.

Traditional Tumbling Blocks quilt finished with a modern twist, made by Rachel, quilted by Frances Meredith

Here is another one for my bucket list (I even have the fabric bought!).  Rachel has made this lovely Tumbling blocks quilt in beautiful teal blues and creams.  One of the challenges of making a single shape block quilt is how to finish the edges.  Often they are irregular, so they can either have their edge finished with the irregular edge ( a lot of fiddly hard work ..), you can cut of the edges straight and deal with it like any other quilt (but you have to be OK with cutting off some of the hard work you have done), or mount the whole quilt onto a border with applique, which is what Rachel has done here.

For the long arm quilting, Rachel chose the ever popular Modern Curves, which gave a traditional style quilt pattern an ultra-modern finish.  It looks amazing!  Rachel took advantage of  my quilt binding service and it was returned by post.

William Morris 'Firecworks' quilt (Sewing Quarter), made by Pat, quilted by Frances Meredith

'Fireworks' quilt with William Morris Fabrics.
Made by Pat, quilted by Fabadashery Longarm Quilitng
Sometimes the best way to learn a new skill is to buy a kit and this is exactly what Pat did when she decided to make her first quilt.  She purchased this 'Fireworks' quilt kit from The Sewing Quarter TV channel and set to work.  What I really love about this quilt is that it is one which is easy to live with, not too bright, not to big, but a quilt which would go in any home and be used every day. Perfect.

For the quilting, we chose a soft brown Mocha Glide thread and an elegant digital pantograph called 'Squirts' by Anne Bright.  I think I have mentioned before how much I love this pattern.  Below I have given you a glimpse of the back, which by the way was a good quality 100% cotton sheet bought from Dunelm - it was gorgeous!  Pat also took advantage of my binding service, which meant she could get it finished in double quick time.
