Here is another custom quilt which I have finished in the past few months - a Pickle Dish quilt made by Ainslie. Ainslie wanted a modern finish to this small quilt, so we went with custom quilting and to make for a quick finish, she also opted for my binding service.

As I enjoy piecing myself, when I am asked to custom finish a quilt, I am always keen to make the piecing look sharp and the best way to to this is to stitch in the ditch.  I would recommend this to anyone quilting their own quilts too.  It is hard work, but you know exactly where to stitch, so not too many decisions!  On this quilt I also did a lot of matchstick quilting as a filler.  You can see more of the detail of the quilting on the back!

Blue Cat Quilt made by Clementina, custom quilted by Frances Meredith

Clementina has come up with a truly original design for her blue cat wall-hanging.  She has combined some hand-pieced fussy-cut English paper piecing with a simple outline of a cat.  As a longarm quilter my job was to custom quilt it, so that it was converted from a pieced top to a quilted wall-hanging.  Sometimes that simply involves outlining the painstaking work which my customer has put so much time into, to make their vision shine.

Celtic Solstice 2016 Mystery Quilt , made by Catherine, custom quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Celtic Solstice Mystery Quilt , made by Catherine,
custom quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting
The lockdown period allowed me to work my way through a list of custom quilting for my customers, including this Celtic Solstice quilt made by Catherine.  The Celtic Solstice quilt was a Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt in 2016 and on this occasion Catherine doubled the size of the pieces to make a wall-hanging sized quilt.  As usual the internet doesn't give a true representation of the size, but it was 46" x 46".

Lockdown 2020 Beach Hut / Houses Quilt made by Penny

Lockdown 2020 Beach Huts Quilt made by Penny

I don't know how the trend started, but I know a lot of quilters have been making 'House Quilts' over the 2020 lockdown period.  Penny has made this lovely colourful interpretation, but these are beach huts.  Penny has made excellent use of her novelty fabrics in this extravaganza.
Carrying on the beach theme, I found this seaside related digital quilting pattern with starfish and shells, designed by Christy Dillon of My Creative Stitches.  This was the first time I have had the opportunity to stitch it out and on this occasion, it was the perfect choice.

Indigo Spin Quilt with traditional Baptist Fan quilting pattern, made by Pat and quilted by Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Indigo Spin Quilt with traditional Baptist Fan quilting pattern,
made by Pat and quilted by Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Pat wanted to challenge herself for this quilt by testing her curved seam skills - she did a great job.   The pattern is called 'Indigo Spin' by Fons and Porter and can be made using 10" or Layer Cakes.  Pat used a indigo blue layer cake and white fabric for this striking combination.

Pat chose a traditional Baptist Fan digital quilting pattern for the quilt - you can really see the pattern on the white backing.

Half Square Triangle Quilt in French General Fabrics, made by Mercedes, quilted by Frances Meredith at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

The more quilts that I quilt here at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting, the more I realise how I am drawn to the quilts which have softer colours, like this lovely half square triangle quilt made by Mercedes.  A combination of a wide range of French General fabrics and a soft, solid grey has made a wonderful quilt which would be suitable for both men and women and would fit into any home.

Sherry's Half Square Triangle Quilt, featuring 'Boltz' robot pattern

'Boltz' Robot pattern designed by Patricia Ritter

I like to spend time adding photos to my website, so that my customers can see what digital quilting patterns I have and how they look on an actual quilt.  Sherry took the time to view my Pinterest page before she dropped off her quilt and had spotted this Robot pattern called 'Boltz'.  I think this pattern is really fun, but besides a few charity Linus Quilts, I haven't had many opportunities to stitch it out.

Here is the pattern stitched out on her Half Square Triangle quilt. Sherry managed to squeeze in loads of novelty fabrics and the Robots were just another fun element. We used a bright yellow Glide thread called Split Pea.  A great way to see the digital quilting pattern on a  quilt is to use a plain  fabric for the backing, so that, in this case, you would have a whole cloth quilt featuring Robots!
If you have theme, or idea for a quilt pattern, please ask me.  I have a selection of novelty patterns which have not reached my website yet and beyond that there are thousands of patterns available on the internet.
