Novelty November - Hearts and Ribbons, Cancer Charity Quilts and More

Throughout November 2020, I am sharing some of the novelty and themed digital patterns which I hold in my collection.  Sometimes they never see the light of day, as they are not the first patterns I pull out when customers drop off their quilts, so I hope to highlight them to you over the next few weeks.

Today I am sharing 'Hearts and Ribbons', designed by Jessica Schick.  This a quilting pattern which features the ribbon used by many charities - pink for Breast Cancer, red for HIV and Aids, yellow for armed forces - there are many uses for it.  If you have made a charity quilt, I will have the appropriate thread colour for the appropriate charity you are supporting.

Carol's Regency Romance Quilt, quilted by Frances Meredith at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Carol's Nine Patch Quilt quilted with
'Nemesh Feathers' designed by Bethanne Nemesh
Sometimes when a quilt pattern is being stitched out on my APQS longarm quilting machine, I am mesmerised by it and can't resist taking a photo.  This was the case with Carol's nine patch quilt.  She, in turn, had been 'mesmerised' by the elegant Regency Romance Moda fabric collection by Christopher Wilson-Tate, which led her to make this beautiful quilt.

Here I am at it again, it just looked so beautiful - I couldn't resist taking a photo.  Over time my fabric tastes have changed and more recently I have been drawn to softer colours.  As a direct result of quilting this customer quilt I had to make an emergency trip to the Patchwork Basket in Newent, UK, to buy a Regency Romance layer cake for myself!

I think the gentle swirls and feathers of the 'Nemesh Feathers' worked so well with this traditional style quilt.

The clocks have gone back today and it is about to go dark early, so I thought we could do with a cute quilt to cheer us all up.  Sherry has made this fantastic 'That Fairy Tale Quilt' designed by Lucy Carson Kingwell, for one of her grandchildren  Take time to look at the detail as all our favourite fairytales are in there - Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, and Hansel and Gretel.

If you re able to zoom in even closer, you will see that Sherry has been able to include fairytale fabrics as well, including Alice in Wonderland. One of my favourite parts of being a longarm quilter is spotting all the lovely fabrics you have chosen for your quilts.  On this quilt we went with 'Popcorn' digital quilting pattern.

I have a special quilt to show you today - Marie's Elephant Quilt which she has made for her teenage grand-daughter, who is elephant mad.  I have shown you a close up of Marie's quilt first, so that you can see the sashing fabric, which features little elephants. Then to personalise it even further, Marie appliqued elephants walking around the border, joined together with some of the fancy stitches on her sewing machine.  I really love quilts which have been personalised for the receiver - they are original and special.  My job was to longarm quilt it to turn it into a quilt.

Karen has been particularly busy with her quilting over the last few months and, like many of you, has pieced this LOVELY house quilt.  I love the extra trees and the hexagons around the edge. To spread the love, she scrolled through my blog and Pinterest page to find a heart quilt pattern, this time 'Ginger Hearts' by Apricot Moon. Perfect.
