Here is another of Jennie's fabulous scrap busting quilts, featuring the swirly quilt pattern, Lalla Palooza designed by Denise Schillinger.  Lockdown certainly helped us reach parts of our stash that otherwise would not be reached!

This is another quilt which got finished thanks to first COVID lockdown, a William Morris masterpiece made by Eirwen.  Each block has been carefully machine appliqued and a custom quilting finish was really the best choice for a detailed quilt like this.

Farm Fresh Strawberry Quilt made by Kath, quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Kath's 'Farm Fresh' Jelly Roll quilt
Sometimes the fabrics in a quilt are the key inspiration for the quilting pattern.  Kath made this Jelly Roll quilt using a fabric range called 'Farm Fresh' by Gingiber (Moda).  Amongst the cows and the chickens, there were some delicious strawberries.  This was our prompt and I was able to source a lovely strawberry quilting motif called 'Strawberry Patch' designed by Hermione Agee.

I think the strawberry is a great pattern for a quilt - who doesn't like strawberries?  Here you can see it stitched out by my APQS longarm machine, on the back of the quilt.

This is a quilt I have recently taken off my APQS longarm quilting machine.  It was made by Jennie who used 'lockdown' to raid her stash and make up some bright, cheerful quilts.  With fun quilts like this, you can have fun with the quilt pattern too.

I am a member of Wye Knots quilt group based in Monmouth, Wales, and over lockdown we managed to make several group quilts, which are all going to charitable causes.  This 'Wacky Stars' quilt was the first one we made and it has been donated to the Wales Air Ambulance for them to auction and raise funds.  It is such a fun quilt and I hope it raises plenty of money for such a great cause.

Evelyn's Garden Stitchery Quilt - custom quilted by Frances Meredith at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Evelyn's Garden Stitchery Quilt
Evelyn's Garden Stitchery Quilt,
custom quilted by Frances Meredith at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

I had the pleasure of custom quilting Evelyn's garden quilt.  It was made up of small pieced blocks in fresh colours and embroidered panels featuring gardening themes which Evelyn had taken great care in colouring.  Each block seemed to demand its own special treatment - just like a vegetable plot!  The photo below shows it on my Handi Quilter Avante, just a the evening sun is highlighting the quilting.

Evelyn's Garden Stitchery Quilt,
custom quilted by Frances Meredith at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting
I have done several quilts with embroidery on them and, naturally, it is the embroidery which is the most important part of the quilt.  I use Superior Threads Monopoly clear thread to quilt around the embroidery sympathetically, which does not interfere with the hand stitching, but at the same time emphasises the basic shapes through quilting.

Marianne's Colourful Fraction Quilt, Half Square Triangle Quilt, quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Marianne's quilt featuring 'Bubbles' quilt pattern
by Lorien Quilting
When a quilt arrives at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting with a lot of white space, you know that the quilt pattern is going to play a major part in the overall design.  Marianne stitched this modern half square triangle quilt, called the Fraction Quilt by Lou Orth in a spectrum of colours.  The quilt pattern is called 'Bubbles' and was quilted in Prickly Pear Glide thread on my APQS longarm quilting machine.

My Happiness is Home Sweet Home' quilt, made by Karen
This is Karen's 'My Happiness is Home Sweet Home' quilt, which I custom quilted for her recently.
She wrote to me to say  "I just had to email you to say a huge, heartfelt thank you. Your bespoke quilting is sublime and I absolutely love every detail. It is even more gorgeous in real life and I can’t stop looking at it. Thank you so much, as always. "

The pattern is by Sarah Edgar from Pretty Fabrics and Trims, and I know Karen loves their style and fabrics.  The original quilt was hand quilted and Karen wanted a similar style.  Ironically, it is sometimes harder to do as little quilting as your can, as I am always trying to keep a nice balance to the overall quilt, yet highlight the piecing at the same time.  This is such a lovely quilt - a lovely one to have around the home.

Pat's Crazy Patchwork Quilt

Pat's Crazy Patchwork Quilt
Pat's Crazy Patchwork Quilt
The main trouble with making quilts is that there always seems to be some fabric left over which screams 'make another quilt!'  I think this was the case with this fun crazy patchwork quilt which was made by one of my longarm quilting customers, Pat.  Pat used a technique introduced to her by Valerie Nesbitt  from just-hands on TV which is a great stashbuster.

The back of the quilt shows the quilting pattern nicely - Rhododendron, designed by Hermione Agee. This is one of those patterns which has been overlooked for a while here at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting, but a  great pattern for all over texture.

Alison's Dinosaur Quilt,
quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

This is one of Alison's first quilts for her one of her grandchildren. She chose a fun pair of prints featuring dinosaur characters.  The on-point squares kept it simple, so the fabrics were shown off to their best.

This beauty is Krina's 'Portrait Quilt', a quilt designed by the Anna Marie Horner collective, as part of the Conservatory Chapter.  The prints are really eclectic and as I watched my APQS longarm quilting machine do its work, I was mesmerised by the clever and unexpected colour combinations of the fabrics - the designers have done their job well!

Festival of Quilts 2021 - Group Quilts Category Winner, Bristol Quilters Ruby Celebration

Festival of Quilts 2021 - Group Quilts Category Winner,
Bristol Quilters Ruby Celebration

Last week I made several trips up to the NEC Birmingham to the 2021 Festival of Quilts.  The first journey was on the Monday to drop off some quilts for the competition.  Amongst the delivery was this prize winning quilt by Bristol Quilters.  The second journey involved visiting the show and seeing the two wall hangings on display in the Winner's Gallery - what a thrill!

A long-standing member of Bristol Quilters, Natalie Taylor, encouraged all our members to contribute a ruby red quilt block for a wall-hanging which would celebrate our 40 years and to be on display at our 2020 exhibition.  Natalie then worked her magic to pull them together into these two hangings. For my small part, I contributed a red and white quilt block and quilted the wall hangings together for the group.

To put it all in context, the Quilters Guild was established in 1979 and the Bristol Quilters were established shortly afterwards in 1980. In 1999, the first Festival of Quilts was held as part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations and the rest - as they say - is history.

Looking forward to the next 40 years (and to the Bristol Quilters 2020 Exhibition!)

This quilt is known as the Rosa Biddlecombe quilt, designed by Margaret Mew.  Jenny has made a lovely job of this and tempted me to add this to my quilt bucket list.

For the quilting pattern we chose 'Squirts' designed by Anne Bright.  Despite its name it is a very elegant quilt pattern, which is great for quilts which have detail such as the bouquet appliqued at the centre of the medallion quilt.  Also, Jenny chose HOBBS 100% Wool, which I usually have available to buy, for the wadding, which has made it a beautifully light quilt.
