Naina's Red and Green Paisley Sampler Quilt

Naina's Sampler Quilt
Naina's Sampler Quilt
Today I am sharing Naina's quilt, another sampler quilt where this time the blocks have had a border added and have been set on point. Naina had made this beautiful quilt and had started to free motion quilt it, but then put it away - I think many of us have projects like that in our cupboards! She brought it to Fabadashery Longarm Quilting and I was able to help her move the quilt on from a UFO to a finished state.

In this photo you can see the pretty feature print used throughout the quilt and this was the inspiration for the quilting pattern.  If you look closely you may be able to see a paisley pattern and amongst my quilting designs I have a fabulous digital quilting pattern called 'New Dehli #1' designed by Patricia E Ritter of Urban Elementz, which we stitched in a luscious gold thread.

Lesley's 2020 Lockdown Quilt - Kingston Quilters

Kingston Quilters 2020 quilt, made by Lesley
I think one of the hardest parts of the last year has been missing out on regular meetings with our friends at our quilt groups.  We are lucky that we have a consuming hobby to keep us busy, but there is nothing like meeting up with a group of friends and talking fabric and quilts!  Lesley is a member of Kingston Quilters and one of the members organised a 'mystery' quilt for the first lockdown, releasing a new block over a period of time.  This was the result.  I love how Lesley has pulled the different sampler blocks together with the navy border around each one.

For the longarm quilting, she chose Grace, a pattern designed by Anne Bright.  I think this is a lovely pattern for Civil War quilts or quilts using more traditional fabrics.

12th Day of Christmas - Red Manor House Quilt made by Pat

Red Manor House Quilt made by Pat
Do you remember quilt shows?  At the 2019 Festival Of Quilts in Birmingham, I can remember a buzz of excitement as the Quilter's Guild launched their Block of the Month for a new project based on a quilt from their historic collection - the Red Manor House quilt.  It is not an exact replica, but the inspiration behind the new quilt designed by Jenny Smith and Kay Walsh in modern fabrics by Riley Blake.  August 2019 seems a long time ago, but I bet Pat was glad she had this project throughout lockdown - a bit of machine-piecing and a bit of hand sewing.  It finishes up as quite a large quilt, so Pat opted for and all over digital pattern, Ginger Hearts by Apricot Moon.

11th Day of Christmas - Jane's Cadence Court Quilt

Some more custom quilting for you today.  This is Jane's Cadence Court Quilt, designed by Sassafras Designs.  I can see what attracted Jane to this pattern with its spectrum of colours and its modern circular design.  Custom quilting comes into its own when there is a LOT of white space, like this one.  Lots of stitch in the ditch, lots of ruler work, but also some free-motion quilting to highlight texture in different areas.  If you look on the back roller of the longarm quilting machine, you can see that Jane chose a multi-coloured swirly extra wide backing fabric - perfect!

Here it is in all its glory, certainly something to cheer you up on a January day.

10th Day of Christmas - Clementina's Owl Quilt

Clementina's Owl Quilt
Clementina's Owl Quilt
This is another custom quilt I completed in 2020.  This wall-hanging has been made by Clementina and was sent off to Italy as a gift at Christmas.  I think Clementina designs all her quilts and I love the originality and personality she puts into them. In the photo it is quite difficult to see the swirly texture of the quilting on the navy fabric, but with the moon and stars, I was able to add a special border.  The light blue border was only 1.5", but I was able to use the computerised software to stitch out a tiny moon and stars border.

9th Day of Christmas - Pauline's Delectable Mountains in Cherrywood Fabrics

Pauline's Delectable Mountains in Cherrywood Fabrics
Pauline's Delectable Mountains in Cherrywood Fabrics
Back in the summer I was working on this small quilt of Pauline's.  Pauline loves her Cherrywood Fabrics and chose this simple Delectable Mountains quilt pattern to show them off, but was then left with the dilemma of how to quilt it.  She knows I like a challenge, so I took it in to custom quilt.  It had me stumped for a while and in the end I decided to design my own patterns in my Art and Stitch software to fit the awkward delectable mountain shapes.  So this quilt has been stitched in the ditch, but once the patterns were designed, I used the computerised feature on my longarm quilting machine to stitch them out automatically.  I love fiddling around with design software, but rarely have the time, so I was really pleased with the outcome of this particular quilt.

Today I am sharing with you Shona's Stitch Pink Sampler Quilt.  This was a free Quilt Along on the Moda website - 30 blocks in 30 days throughout the month of October 2020, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month across the world.  At the time of writing (Jan 2021), the blocks are still available to download.

All the fabrics in this quilt are Moda Grunge fabrics.  With such a strong pattern, Shona chose a light quilting pattern, Dragon Wings, which you can see on the front and back of the quilt in the photos.  I know that this quilt pushed Shona's quilting skills and left here wanting to do more, as well as being very thankful for having a hobby to occupy her during 2020.

7th Day of Christmas - Eirwen's Tilda Cabbage Rose Quilt

Here is a lovely fresh quilt ready for a fresh start to 2021!  This is the Tilda Cabbage Rose quilt made by Eirwen. Beautiful pink and blue applique.  When you go to the trouble of doing applique, it always feels as if custom quilting is the most appropriate quilting solution to enhance it and that is exactly what Eirwen requested.

To work around the applique I used swirls, feathers and bubbles to add texture to the block. You will notice that I stitched out a channel around the block, this is a technique I often use to break a busy custom block from a different area from the quilt.  Like many of you, this was just one of the quilts which Eirwen finished in 2020.
