Gill brought me this huge batik Jelly roll quilt to be longarm quilted.  I think this has to be one of my favourite colour combinations, using opposites on the colour wheel in the right balance.

The striking quilting pattern was 'Cosmos' by Keryn Emmerson.  Lots of circles on the squares, seemed to work well.  This pattern can take a quilt to another level and it certainly worked well on this one.

It is always a pleasure to be asked to help out with a special project. Dilys has been working on her Dragon quilt for a while, using her embroidery machine to stitch out colourful dragons to feature on her large bed quilt.  The quilt was mainly black and white, but the embroidered dragons, gave a subtle flash of colour.

Dilys wanted the dragon theme to continue in the quilting, so I found this digital quilt pattern, Lorien's Dragons designed by Hermione Agee.  As the backing was black, using a coloured thread, in this case Glide Damson, the dragons showed up as a pattern on the back of the quilt, but cleverly merged on the busy front.

I had a lovely surprise today, as this lovely quilt made by Karen popped up on her instagram feed #creative_karen_bee . I quilted this for Karen earlier in the summer and the quilt is Sarah's Sampler a block of the month (BOM) designed by Sarah Edgar at #prettyfabricsandtrims .  A sampler quilt is always fun to do as each block gets its own special treatment.

Christine's heirloom Hexagon Quilt

Christine had been working on this quilt by hand for many, many years, working from the middle outwards. Each layer represents another decade of family history in the quilt.  It includes polyester curtains from the 1970's to Winnie the Pooh duvet covers, and everything in between. If you look at the detail photo, you may just spot some fabric you recognise from your history.  Christine got to a point where she was wondering how to turn it into a quilt - this is where Fabadashery Longarm Quilting was able to help.

On this quilt we chose the quilting pattern, Popcorn, designed by Willow Leaf Studio, a very versatile pattern and one which I reach for often. However, the difficulty with hexagon quilts is how to deal with the uneven edges - it not something you often think about when you start a hexagon quilt.  On this occasion I quilted the whole top, then added the binding and trimmed the quilt square, so some of the hexagons were cut off.  As a result, Christine and her family now have a true heirloom quilt which the whole family can treasure.
