Hilary's Pink Ombre Quilt

This quilt looks 'pretty in pink', made out of an ombre fabric gradually moving from a deep to light pink shade.  Hilary spotted the fabric at J B Quilting in Newport and once she worked out what she wanted to do with it, went back to buy some more.  She took time to cut her pieces cleverly to create this amazing effect with the different shades of pink.

Hilary used the same fabric on the back of the quilt, so you can see the full ombre effect.  The quilting pattern, 'Cosmos' by Keryn Emmerson, looks brilliant on this unique pink spotty ombre fabric.

6th Day of Christmas 2024 - Carrie's First Quilt, Online Quilt-Along

Carrie's First Quilt, Online Quilt-Along

Carrie is a keen seamstress, but this was the first large quilt which she has made.  Carrie followed an online quilt-along to build up this medallion style quilt in plain fabrics and brought it to Fabadashery Longarm Quilting to be quilted. Carrie went online before her visit to see what quilt patterns I had in my library, via my Pinterest page, and by scrolling through my posts of other quilts I had quilted.  In the end she chose Malachite, a quilting pattern designed by Patricia Ritter of Urban Elementz, which looked amazing.  I don't think this will be her only quilt.  Will you be starting to quilt in 2025?

5th Day of Christmas 2024 - Valerie's Kantha Bird Wall-Hanging

Valerie has fallen in love with Angela Daymond's book 'British Birds in Stitches', and over the past year she has hand stitched, not one, but several of these small wall-hangings, featuring British birds in Kantha stitch.  For my part, I custom quilted the grid, so that each bird sat in its own little space and filled in the stitches around them.  Valerie is going to finish the quilt off by adding eyes to each bird and adding a button to the corners of each block.

4th Day of Christmas 2024 - Julie's Large Purple Deco Quilt

It is wonderful to revisit some of the quilts I have done over the past year.  This amazing quilt made by Julie, was a gift and was 96" x 106", so very big.  Big usually means heavy, so I recommended that we used 100% wool for the wadding, which is a lot lighter than most waddings.  The pattern is called 'Deco Quilt' by Lo and Behold Stitchery.

I had the perfect Glide thread - Purple Rose, to match the quilt and Julie chose 'Bird's Eye View' quilt pattern designed by Barbara Becker, for the quilting pattern.

Just in time for Christmas, Karen finished her seasonal quilt. The pattern is called 'Snowflake' designed by Modern Handcraft Quilts.  Karen used a mix of icy blues and greens for her background, with a mix of white fabrics for the actual snowflake.  Karen had chosen a dark navy Moda Grunge fabric for her backing and wanted the quilting pattern to show.  We used a Silver Glide thread and 'Nightlight' digital quilting pattern designed by Patricia Ritter and Marybeth O'Halloran.  As you can see the front is just as good as the back!

2nd Day of Christmas 2024 - Shirley's Totally Tulip's Quilt

Shirley's Totally Tulip's Quilt

As I look out of the window now, it is very foggy, and it has been for the past few days - so here is Shirley's Totally Tulips quilt to bring some sunshine to our lives.  This quilt is made from fabrics Shirley collected on a trip to the USA.  The design, Totally Tulips, is available as a pattern and  a video on the Missouri Star quilt website. Shirley's quilt group had their quilt exhibition in 2024, so getting her quilt professionally longarm quilted ensured that the quilt was finished in time for the display.

Christmas Day 2024 has finally passed and I am able to show some of the quilts which have been gifted this year, including this wonderful Winnie the Pooh quilt made by Linda.  Using her Disney Brother Embroidery Machine and her Accuquilt fabric cutter, she has been able to personalise this Winnie the Pooh themed quilt.

To add another layer of personalisation, Linda chose' Paw Prints', a quilting design by Judy Vallely, stitched out in a bright yellow Glide thread.

Jane's Poppy Quilt, quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

This is Jane's Poppy Quilt, a project which she completed on a quilting cruise.  A simply pieced background with some stunning appliqued poppies taking centre stage.  Jane also took advantage of the Fabadashery Longarm Quilting partial finishing and binding service, which meant that she just had to hand finish the binding before gifting it to a family a member.

With a new baby on the way, Valerie wanted to make sure that she was 'quilt ready' for the newborn and sourced this fun pirate quilt panel and the centre of her quilt.  The colourful quilt panel is 'Pirates Panel' sold by Makower and Valerie has made it bigger by adding her own blocks.  The black and white striped binding really finishes it off well.

Yesterday was a beautiful autumn day, with the trees full of colour, which made me reach out for this lovely selection of fabrics, Cottage Cloth by Andover, which are waiting in my stash to be used. I haven't made a quilt for long time, but even I still have a few tops waiting to be quilted!

Katie's Unique Log Cabin

Katie is a textile designer, and she has made this unique log cabin quilt out of all her scraps of self-designed fabrics.  As a result, they are all in fabrics and colours she loves!  The fabrics were a heavier weight than quilting cotton, so to reduce the weight, Katie chose 100% wool for her wadding. 

Katie also chose a special Indian block print fabric from Merchant and Mills for the backing

To finish the quilt off, Katie chose 'Birds Eye View' designed by Barbara Becker.

Sheila's Turquoise Star Quilt - Quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Sheila had a 'focus' fabric at the centre of her stars which led to this lovely colour turquoise and pink colour scheme for a quilt. Sheila is a very experienced quilter and it is evident from her clever use of batik fabrics, using dark navy, tones of turquoise blues and pale blues to get a magical mix of dark, medium and light tones.

The batik fabrics are very forgiving when choosing a digital quilting pattern and on this occasion Sheila chose 'Bubbles' designed by Lorien Quilting.

When I first saw the Moda Zen Chic 'Dance in Paris' quilting fabric range, I fell in love with it.  I have yet to break into my stash, but It seems Natalie did the same and made this lovely quilt using all the different fabrics in the collection.

Helen's Underground Railroad Quilt - Traditional Sampler

One of the pleasures of being a longarm quilter is that you never know what quilt is coming next.  This time it was Helen's traditional sampler quilt, taken from the book ' Underground Railroad Quilt' written by Eleanor Burns and Sue Bouchard.  Each block has a story behind it relating to the slave trade in America.  Sampler quilts usually have a lot going on, with several contrasting colours and different shapes.  On these occasions, the quilting pattern needs to take a back seat and let the blocks shine.

For Helen's Underground Railroad Quilt, we used 'Bird's Eye View' quilting pattern by Barbara Becker, one of my go to patterns when you don't want anything too busy.  It looked great on the back of the quilt too.

Karen's Dragon Quilt - Apples and Beavers blender Quilt

Karen's Dragon Quilt

Karen brought me this lovely children's quilt for longarm quilting, based on some patterns from a quilt company called Apples and Beavers. Along with the dragon in the quilt, Karen 'blended' other patterns and forest friends from the company to devise her own version.  She clearly had a wonderful time making it, because of all the detail I spotted whilst it was on my longarm quilting machine.  Karen was helped along by Lynne Quinn in North Somerset.

Whilst the dragon was sleeping in the corner, we used the popular quilting pattern, 'Popcorn' by Willow Leaf Studio to give the impression of smoke coming out of his nostrils!
