Row by Row Sampler Quilt

'Sew A Row' Sampler Quilt, Busy Bees Patchwork Newport
'Sew A Row' Sampler Quilt, made by Christine
As soon as Christine walked through the door with this quilt top I fell in love with the bright red / black pattern.  Christine made this quilt as part of Sue Warren's 'Sew A Row' Sampler quilt workshop at Busy Bees Patchwork in Newport, where they had to complete five blocks each week.  It includes a Churn Dash block, a Dresden Fan, a Star block and an applique flower.  Sue sure kept them busy!

Christine wanted the quilting to be 'modernish'.  With such a striking pattern and colour choice the quilting needed to be kept simple and let the fabrics sing, so custom quilting with stitching in the ditch, echoing and a simple stipple where enough to really make the repeating patterns pop.

Christine chose this cute little Scottie dog fabric for the back of her quilt and with her colour choice of red, black and cream I don't think there could have been a more perfect combination. In fact it was the little quilted coat on the dog which inspired me to quilt the crosshatch pattern in the black sashing and borders.

With so many lovely quilts passing through my hands, sometimes I am reluctant to let them go!
