Di's Fruits of the Forest Kaffe Fassett Quilt

'Fruits of the Forest' Quilt, made by Di,
quilted by Frances Meredith

This is another homage to Kaffe Fassett by Di.  This quilt is called Fruits of the Forest and features in his book 'Quilts in Burano'.  As a longarm quilter my main aim is to look at the main focus of the quilt and use my longarm quilting machine to enhance it.  With pretty much every Kaffe Fassett quilt which comes through my door (and I have had MANY), the focus is always the alluring fabrics, with the quilting only having a small bit part in the show.

The choice of digital patterns is wide open, so on this occasion I looked at the fabrics and took a lead from one of the swirly patterns and accompanied it with this swirly quilt pattern, 'Lalla Palooza' design by Denise Schillinger.  I managed to catch Lalla Palooza in all its glory on my APQS longarm machine, just as the sun comes around in the afternoon.

Di's Kaffe Fassett Bordered Diamond Quilt

Di's Kaffe Fassett Bordered Diamond Quilt
Di's Kaffe Fassett Bordered Diamond Quilt
I thought I would brighten up your Monday morning with this spectacular 'Bordered Diamonds' quilt, made by Di. Bold fabrics, bold shapes, pretty much everything we love about Kaffe Fassett quilt designs.  I have lost count of how many of his designs I have quilted on my APQS longarm machine, but they are always a delight to do.

Di specifically asked for this pattern, Heatwave, designed by Patricia Ritter of Urban Elementz.  The good news was that my quilt pattern library is growing so large that it was there waiting for her!

Margie's 'Quilter's Patch Garden' quilt designed by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts, custom quilted at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting by Frances Meredith

With the start of Spring, more of us are venturing out into the garden.  Margie is talented gardener herself, but she has also stitched this wonderful garden sampler quilt called 'Quilter's Patch Garden' designed by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.  Margie regularly sends me her quilts by post and when this one arrived I just knew it needed some custom quilting, using my Handi Quilter Avante.

I used a combination of free-motion techniques, such as Stitch in the ditch, feathers and paisley shapes, alongside some digital motifs to break up the larger areas.

I love the tones of Edyta Sitar's fabric ranges and this particular pattern has lots of different patchwork techniques, like English Paper Piecing, Dresden plates, applique, foundation pieced shapes and curved seams.  It is the perfect pattern to learn new techniques in piecing, as well as an opportunity to experiment with longarm quilting techniques. And it is SO pretty.

Helen's Autumn Bird Quilt, with Indian Summer quilting at Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

Helen's Bird Quilt
Helen's Bird Quilt

A guess Spring time is probably the best time to make your Autumn quilts.  Helen has made this beautiful bird quilt.  You can see from the detail that the shape of the bird is made up of simple triangles and in the quilt it is paired up with a lovely block.

Helen chose some lovely autumn colours and often that can be the inspiration for the quilting pattern.  In this case, we chose 'Indian Summer, designed by Patricia Ritter, which features acorn and leaves.

The Bonnie Hunter 2020 Grassy Creek Mystery quilts keep coming.  This time Di has done a smaller version, but has selected one fabric for each colour - in this case Moda Grunge.  She cleverly used two tones of grey.  It has a lovely clean and fresh look.  It is amazing how they all look so different.

The quilt pattern in this quilt is Ginger Snap, designed by Apricot Moon, which is a lovely simple, even all over pattern.  I know this is not the last Grassy Creek Mystery quilt to come my way, so look forward to seeing some more.

Basically Ballroom BOM Quilt made by Sara, quilted by Fabadashery Longarm Quilting

I have noticed a few of these quilts popping up on social media and the internet, so I thought I should show you Sara's lovely Basically Ballroom quilt, which I longarm quilted for her recently.  The pattern was a BOM (Block of the Month) pattern starting in February 2020 by The Quilt Room and no doubt its timely release kept everyone occupied last year. It uses Sarah Ashford fabric.

Sara specifically wanted a geometric pattern on the quilt and with all the blocks containing 45 degree angles, this pattern, String Theory fitted the bill. It is quite a neat little pattern isn't it?
