With the start of Spring, more of us are venturing out into the garden.  Margie is talented gardener herself, but she has also stitched this wonderful garden sampler quilt called 'Quilter's Patch Garden' designed by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.  Margie regularly sends me her quilts by post and when this one arrived I just knew it needed some custom quilting, using my Handi Quilter Avante.

I used a combination of free-motion techniques, such as Stitch in the ditch, feathers and paisley shapes, alongside some digital motifs to break up the larger areas.

I love the tones of Edyta Sitar's fabric ranges and this particular pattern has lots of different patchwork techniques, like English Paper Piecing, Dresden plates, applique, foundation pieced shapes and curved seams.  It is the perfect pattern to learn new techniques in piecing, as well as an opportunity to experiment with longarm quilting techniques. And it is SO pretty.
