Festival of Quilts 2021 - Group Quilts Category Winner, Bristol Quilters Ruby Celebration

Festival of Quilts 2021 - Group Quilts Category Winner,
Bristol Quilters Ruby Celebration

Last week I made several trips up to the NEC Birmingham to the 2021 Festival of Quilts.  The first journey was on the Monday to drop off some quilts for the competition.  Amongst the delivery was this prize winning quilt by Bristol Quilters.  The second journey involved visiting the show and seeing the two wall hangings on display in the Winner's Gallery - what a thrill!

A long-standing member of Bristol Quilters, Natalie Taylor, encouraged all our members to contribute a ruby red quilt block for a wall-hanging which would celebrate our 40 years and to be on display at our 2020 exhibition.  Natalie then worked her magic to pull them together into these two hangings. For my small part, I contributed a red and white quilt block and quilted the wall hangings together for the group.

To put it all in context, the Quilters Guild was established in 1979 and the Bristol Quilters were established shortly afterwards in 1980. In 1999, the first Festival of Quilts was held as part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations and the rest - as they say - is history.

Looking forward to the next 40 years (and to the Bristol Quilters 2020 Exhibition!)
